Reading Fast(er)
In academia one ends up reading a lot. Some readings require little attention and can be made fast and enjoyable by pasting the text into spreeder or bionic reading. These tools can also come handy for a first pass on a paper (mostly introduction), but be aware that understanding written text takes time, so you should anyway re-read a paper in ’the usual way’. Check out Episode 69 of the academic imperfectionist for an academic’s experience with speed reading and intellectual understanding.
